One of the interesting things about buying a car is the different makes and models that you see spread across a car lot. What would work best for you? What exactly are you looking for? At Schmit Bros, we are happy to help you put you in the vehicle of your dreams and answer any and all questions you may have about our different makes and models. For example, in our Ford dealership, many people question the differences between similar vehicles...what’s the biggest differences? The SUV that most people want to know the differences with is the Ford Expedition and the Ford Explorer, whom are closely related but have some differences.
The Ford Explorer came out in the 1991 model year and has stuck around ever since. It was first introduced as a replacement to the Ford Bronco II and has different pieces (whether they be mechanically, body structure, or similar features) of the Ford Taurus, the Ford Bronco II, and the Ford Ranger, all wrapped together in the Ford Explorer package.
The Ford Expedition rolled out in the 1997 model year; also the successor of the Ford Bronco. With mechanical and feature mixes of the Ford F-150, the Bronco, and some similar mechanical configurations with the Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Suburban, it completely replaced the Ford Excursion in 2007.
While both the Ford Expedition and Ford Explorer have towing capabilities, standard rear while drive, and options for 4-wheel drive, the Ford Expedition has the ability for Control Trac 4-wheel Drive System, which is a drivetrain that uses software control instead of traditional 4-wheel drive vehicles that rely on gears and gravity. The Ford Explorer has an intelligent 4-wheel drive system which helps through different types of traction on muddy, slippery, wet, and rocky surfaces.
The Ford Explorer has the most fuel-efficient trim levels of the two, while the Ford Expedition is a full-sized SUV and the Ford Explorer is a mid-sized cross over SUV.
Both have incredibly powerful towing capabilities for an SUV and a crossover, but the winner in that department is the Ford Expedition- which can tow up to 9,300 pounds.
Our staff and sales representatives are happy to answer any and all questions you may have regarding any of our inventory!
