You probably already know that the Ford F-150 isn’t just America’s most popular pickup truck; it’s the most popular vehicle, thanks to its power and rock-solid dependability. But did you know it also packs several ingenious hidden features? Schmit Bros Ford runs down a few of our favorites, and we’ll show you even more when you arrive for your test drive.
Secret Storage Space
Your key fob has a locking key called a key blade. It has a few interesting uses, not least of which is accessing the truck’s rear seat locks. In the higher trim levels, you can use the key blade to flip up the truck’s rear seats and unlock added storage when needed.
Dead Key Fob Start
The key blade also comes in handy if the battery dies in the key fob. Some vehicles rely on proximity to the key fob to start, but the Ford F-150 won’t leave you stranded. Here’s what to do:
- Unlock the doors using the key blade
- Next, look under the cupholder in the front center console; you should see a slot.
- Finally, insert the key blade in the slot, silver-side up.
Your truck gets the signal it needs, and it’ll start right up.
Center Console Work Surface
What if your office could come with you? Select trims are equipped with a work surface hidden in the center console. A simple button press lets you fold out a large work surface that can accommodate a tablet, laptop, clipboard, or whatever you need for invoices, paperwork, or check-ins with your home office.
