You’re on your truck quest, so you've narrowed your truck to a Ford Super Duty truck. But that still leaves one massive question...do you go to the Ford F-250, Ford F-350, or Ford F-450??
Ford has a super duty line up of trucks that take the ever so popular F-150 model and add even more muscle. The F-250, F-350 and F-450 are the hardest-working trucks on the market that come standard with very powerful engines and incredibly durable frames. They are designed to tow and haul thousands of pounds so naturally, these Ford trucks are built to work HARD and are built Ford Tough. So, which Ford Super Duty pickup should you choose?
The biggest difference between these three trucks is in their performance. There are differences when it comes to towing and payload capacities.
The Ford F-350 and F-450 are unmatched when it comes to their towing capacity. They can pull up to 40,000 pounds when paired with a gooseneck trailer. The Ford F-250 may not be as strong, but it can still pull up to 22,800 pounds. We’d say that is more than enough for most jobs.
With a maximum payload of 8,000 pounds, the Ford F-450 tops any truck from its competitors. You literally cannot go wrong when you're picking between these incredibly strong Ford F-Series trucks.
All Ford Super Duty trucks are powered by pretty impressive engine options. The F-250 and F-350 feature identical options; including gasoline and diesel. For the best gas-powered towing, there is the new 7.3-liter gas V-8 engine, which is designed to haul heavy loads.
The F-450 only comes with the 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel engine. But all Super Duty trucks can come with the optional 6.7L High-Output Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel for even more power.
Whether you choose the gas or diesel engine, you are guaranteed to have a pickup truck for towing or hauling just about anything. All Ford Super Duty engines feature a 10-speed automatic transmission for smooth and efficient shifting while towing.
If you want to get the most towing out of your F-Series truck, you want a dual rear wheel truck. The F-350 has the option for adding extra wheels and the F-450 comes as a dually. The extra wheels distribute weight better than a 4-wheel truck; and that improves towing performance. A dually truck will have stronger axles, which are ideal for towing. The smaller F-250 doesn't come with a dual rear wheel option.
While the Super Duty trucks don't feature off-road trims, they can still perform off of the pavement. Bigger isn't always better...that is definitely the case when off-roading. The F-250 will handle better in different conditions, such as sand and dirt, because of its lighter curb weight. The F-350 and F-450 may not handle the trail as well, but they are great for towing ATVs and dirt bikes out onto the trail.
The odds are that if you're looking at these heavy-duty pickup trucks, you probably need a truck to tow or haul heavy loads. The F-250 Super Duty has strength with its pretty impressive powertrain and is the perfect truck for most towing and hauling needs.
For those who may need a little more power, The F-350 and F-450 will provide even more muscle, thanks to the option of having dual-rear wheels and a larger frame. The truth is that no matter which Super Duty F-Series model you choose, you'll get one dependable and hard-working truck.
