Better yet, it has a standard hybrid powertrain, and the core model range includes the XL, XLT and Lariat. The most basic version of the Maverick keeps things relatively simple. No matter which color you get it in, the grille, mirror caps, and door and tailgate handles are classic black. All-season tires surround a set of 17-inch steel wheels and the interior is pretty straightforward. It comes with cloth seats and a flip-up three-seat bench in the back. LED headlights are standard and behind the steering wheel, features audio controls for the six-speaker sound system. There's a 4.2-inch multi-information display and an even larger 8-inch touchscreen that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Just below the climate controls is a USB-A port, USB-C port, and one of two 12-volt outlets. It also comes with a built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot!
Upgrading to the Maverick XLT gives you access to changes, some of which are more obvious than others. The XLT has a black grille, mirror caps, and door and tailgate handles. Instead of manual side mirrors, the XLT has power mirrors with integrated blindspot mirrors. The driver's door is equipped with a keypad for SecuriCode keyless entry keypad, which can come in handy if you lock your keys in the car. Beyond the Maverick XLT's power locking tailgate, the 4.5-foot Flexbed has four helpful D-rings and a covered storage compartment.
The top-of-the-line Maverick is the king, though, and that’s the Lariat. Signature lighting makes the Lariat's front end even more distinctive. The Lariat has 225/60R and two-tone 18-inch wheels, which are the largest available in the lineup. Getting into the Maverick Lariat is a keyless process. To protect its interior from outdoorsy activities, Ford covered the Lariat's power front buckets and rear bench in ActiveX, a synthetic material designed to be durable and stain resistant. Temperature on the dual-zone climate control system is also available. It’s just figuring out which color of ambient lighting that everyone can agree on that may be the hard part. Tech upgrades include a larger, 6.5-inch display behind the leather-wrapped steering wheel and a pair of USB ports on the back side of the center console.
Try to get your hands on the Maverick Lariat First Edition; it’s incredible. As its name indicates, it's based on the Lariat trim level. It gets the same basic equipment, as well as a few bonus features. First Editions are decked out with a black roof, including a power moonroof, mirror caps, graphics on the bottom of the doors, special decals on the sides of the bed, and a soft tonneau cover. All-wheel-drive models come with unique 17-inch wheels and all-terrain tires; hybrids get black 18s and a set of all-season tires. That’s right: we said hybrid. PLUG IN HYBRID. How cool is that?
