The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division Emergency Disaster Services’ canteen fleet is receiving a much-needed boost from The Ford Motor Company. Yesterday, the automaker announced that it will donate a fully customized Ford Transit van which will serve as a disaster response unit in various emergency situations.

With a sleek design and tall roof, the Transit more easily maneuvers around tight situations, and has enough room for people to stand fully upright inside. Powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 EcoBoost engine, the donated van also comes with many custom-installed appliances and features to assist the volunteer response team in providing food, beverages, blankets, clothing, temporary shelter, communications support, emergency lighting, and clean-up kits to victims and response personnel.

“Assisting with disaster relief is an important part of our mission to serve the communities where we live and work,” said Janet Lawson, director, Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of Ford. “The flexibility of the Ford Transit van makes it a great fit for The Salvation Army’s emergency response fleet.”
