When you enter the Schmit Bros Auto Body Shop, one thing stands out: it’s really really clean for a body shop. Like, really clean. Different car makes and models cross a couple different work areas, freshly painted fenders with plastic all around will also probably catch your eye. Schmit Bros Auto Body Shop services all makes and models for any body shop needs: I saw a few Jeep Grand Cherokees, Jeep Wranglers, and even some other brands like the Lincoln MKX and a Chevy Malibu. The bulk of our customers are returning to Schmit Bros with cars that they bought here, but we service all makes and models, including car brands we don’t advertise here.
When you turn to the left, there’s a small office where Quintin Hammonds is sitting behind his desk and is usually diligently going over the work for the day and the work coming up. Quintin has a friendly demeanor, a solid handshake, and a smile that could brighten anyone’s day. Quintin really takes a lot of pride in his job as the Body Shop Manager, and it shows with our customer satisfaction surveys and the increase in traffic to the body shop since he took on the role in 2019.
Quintin is an honest guy who likes cars and is honest, forthcoming, and does his best for everyone that walks in the door. We’re proud and happy to have him on our team and leading the auto body shop here at Schmit Bros.
Quintin was excited to sit down and explain the insurance process and how Schmit Bros Auto Body Shop is consistently ranked in the top 5 in the greater Ozaukee County region (that’s 58 other body shops if you’re keeping count). Insurance companies, like American Family, grade the local market on the body shops in the area and send many of their customers to the top-ranking body shops. The Direct Repair Program, as it is often called, is broken down into parts. We won’t bore you with the insurance jargon, but Quintin explains that it’s a lot like a credit score. The top number is 900 and currently Schmit Bros is sitting really pretty at 832. Quintin explained that this isn’t like an advertisement that you can buy, this is based on satisfaction surveys. Since insurance companies want to keep their customers happy, they often send them to us here at Schmit Bros because our work is second to none.
Another aspect of the quality rating is cycling, which essentially is just how fast your car gets fixed. Before Quintin started here, we were usually in the middle of the ratings when it came to insurance companies and referrals. Now, we are consistently getting them every week at a pace where we’ve hired more body shop help. 4 full time body shop techs, an assistant, and Quintin run the body shop currently, which is doubled compared to when he first started.
Quintin explained a majority of what they service in the body shop is deer hits. “We usually have at least one here at all times”, he stated. Accidents, other animal hits, restorations, and little knicks in paint are everything we take care of, and then some.
The current body shop has been on the Schmit Bros lot since the Ford store was built in 1976 and has been gaining momentum ever since. With Quintin running the operation, it’s not showing any signs of slowing down anytime soon.
