Back in September 2022, Ford announced the arrival of the 7th generation Mustang that was named the S650 generation. The Ford Mustang has been such an essential Ford brand car, Ford likes to keep it close to the heart when it comes to changes on this masterpiece. Several trim options will be available for 2024, including the 2024 EcoBoost Mustang, and the 2024 Mustang GT. But what are the differences? Let’s chat cars.
While the dimensions on the inside and out are virtually identical, there are some styling differences on the exterior. Here are a few features that set them apart on the outside.
Similar to previous generations, the 2024 EcoBoost Mustang has dual tips while the 2024 Mustang GT uses quad tips. The exhaust's sound is of more interest to buyer's vs performance on both models. The 2024 Mustang GT trim gets a newly styled emblem on the trunk lid. The 2024 EcoBoost Mustang doesn't have fender badges and has the classic running horse rear emblem. To some this may seem like a silly difference, but to others this can make a huge difference since the Mustang symbol can be important to those who own one. The GT has a more aggressive looking front-end when compared to the EcoBoost. An angle on the trim surrounds the grille and a less rounded hood with vents contributes to a different appearance for the GT model. The GT also has an angled insert on the side of the grille that's not on the EcoBoost.
The EcoBoost comes standard with 17-inch wheels, while the GT comes with 19-inch wheels. GT buyers also have the option to upgrade to 20-inch alloy wheels.
The interiors of the GT and EcoBoost are similar but have a few important differences depending on the trim level you choose. At a base level, both the GT and the EcoBoost come with the digital instrument cluster. The 12.4-inch dual-screen cockpit has customizable display options that adapt to the drive mode you're in. There's also a 13.2-inch infotainment screen, making both Mustangs connectable with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Both models come with cloth seats, but the GT has leather inserts while the EcoBoost comes with micro-suede vinyl inserts.
Now comes the fun part for motorheads: the Mustang has power upgrades for GT and EcoBoost models. The EcoBoost has a 2 direct-injected turbocharged I-4 engine that puts out 315 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. The GT is a different beast. Yes. Beats. The 4th Generation Coyote engine puts out 480 hp with 415 lb-ft of torque. DANG.
The GT will be available in either a 6-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic. The EcoBoost model will only be available with automatic transmission. So, if a manual transmission is something you are after, the GT is your only option.
We'd be missing a key point if we overlooked how these Mustangs sound. The GT sounds grittier and more powerful. The power of the V8 is very apparent through the classic rumble and growl. Still, the EcoBoost sounds pretty good for a 4-cylinder. The GT's volume and tone can also be altered to suit your fancy. Both the EcoBoost and GT have an active exhaust as performance upgrade options. This lets you adjust how loud your exhaust will be, which is nice for the GT owners who don't want to wake up the whole neighborhood on startup. Or those who do.
The GT is designed for higher performance when compared to the EcoBoost. However, there are some distinct advantages to the EcoBoost, like price and fuel economy, that make it worth considering.
At the end of the day, a Mustang is a Mustang. And man, they are awesome. To fit your needs and your budget, Ford has many options available for Mustang owners and enthusiasts.
